"Under all is the land. It is a foundation of wealth."

Joel is an agriculturist specializing in land management, sales, acquisitions, and consulting. He works with clients representing them in management, leasing, buying and selling, exchanging, and development of their land. Consulting with people to determine their needs, then developing a plan and working to accomplish objectives, has been the basis of Joel’s strong record of accomplishments.

Joel is a part of many organizations including the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, being a member of the Iowa and Illinois Chapters. He is past president of the Iowa Chapter, second vice-president of the Illinois Chapter, and past District III vice-president of the ASFMRA. He is one of five REALTORS nationwide who hold the titles of Accredited Land Consultant (ALC), Accredited Rural Appraiser (ARA), Accredited Farm Manager (AFM), and both Accredited Agricultural Consultant (AAC) and Certified Agricultural Consultant (CAC).

Brought up on a general livestock and grain farm in Story County, Iowa, farming has always been a part of Joel’s life and his family’s life. He operated a cow/calf operation on his farm in Linn County and continues to own farmland in Iowa and Illinois. Joel’s father, Carl, is the founder of Hertz Farm Management and his son, Chad, is part of the Hertz Farm Management team in Waterloo, Iowa. Joel opened the first branch office of Hertz Farm Management at Mt. Vernon, Iowa in 1961 and opened an Illinois office at Monticello in 1980, moving his family in 1981.
