Gary has been appraising, managing, selling, and acquiring rural properties in Iowa for clients since 1967. His dedication to the land won Gary the 1991 Conservation Award in Iowa from the Iowa Chapter of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, and the Johnson County Soil and Water Conservation District Farm Manager Award in the same year. He also served in the Soil and Water Conservation Service from 1961 to 1967.

Gary is involved with several professional organizations such as the Iowa Chapter of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, Education Committee, Conservation Promotion Committee, and the Professional Advancement Committee.

Gary was raised on a grain and livestock farm in West Central Iowa, attended high school in Guthrie Center, Iowa, and graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa in 1961. Outside of his career, Gary also assumes many leadership roles. He is a board member of Blair Ridge Baptist Church, a Trustee on Iowa Regular Baptist Camp at Clear Lake, Iowa, and Treasurer of Eastern Iowa Campus Ministry in Iowa City. He is married and has three children.
